A tribute to Master Michael Newton

It is with a deep sense of sadness that we inform you that our Dear Friend and Respected Colleague, Master Michael Newton passed away peacefully on Friday 21st February at 15.00pm.

Michael started his training in the Art Form under the guidance of Mr Dhaliwal on Sept 21st 1981 at the Melton Mowbray Goyararu club (as the Art Form was then named).

Even after a few months of training Mr Dhaliwal says he noticed that “here was a special student”….a student with an already well developed and acute sense of Physical, Emotional and Intellectual Balance. About this time the Association was establishing its National Head Quarters in Loughborough (The Goyararu Institute) and very soon Mr Dhaliwal invited Michael to become the full-time caretaker and eventually Resident Instructor at the Institute.

Michael was resident at the Institute for over 10 years and made an immeasurable contribution to a truly remarkable and magical period of the Art Form’s development, where hundreds of students trained every week and Michael has touched the lives of each and every one of them.

In 2014, after 33 years of diligent training and teaching the Art Form, Michael was promoted to the Rank of Master Grade.

Not only had Michael reached the highest pinnacles of the Art Form, he was a qualified Reflexologist, a fully certified Yoga Instructor and a graduate in Fine Art. During the past 16 years he battled with a rare form of Multiple Myeloma and throughout this period we never saw him without that wonderfully infectious smile and unshakable positive demeanor.

We all consider ourselves fortunate to have had Michael in our lives and he will, for always, continue to ‘live’ in our hearts and minds.

Thank You Master Michael Newton. Rest in Peace Dear Friend.
